After the success of the last three years’ events, the fourth Greenwich Book Festival will once again be hosting a Schools Day on the slightly later date of Friday 15th June. The dedicated book festival day will provide opportunities for local primary children to explore learning and creativity through books. The day is designed to provide young people with fun activities to enhance their enjoyment of literature, including:
Talks and workshops with well-known authors; storytelling and creative activities; meeting authors and book signings
The Festival Schools Day has an exciting line up of events suitable for pupils in years 3 to 6. The day’s events will include sessions with bestselling children’s authors Lisa Thompson [The Goldfish Boy & The Light Jar], Gary Northfield [Julius Zebra series], Catherine Barr and illustrator Anne Wilson [Red Alert!] and professional storyteller Wendy Shearer (storyboat.co.uk).
To allow as many schools to participate as possible, each school may book to bring one class (max. 35 pupils) from one year group category (Years 3 or 4 or Years 5 or 6). If you are interested in bringing a larger group please contact us and we will see if we can accommodate your request.

Author Book Signings
One of the highlights of previous years has been the opportunity for the children getting to meet the authors at the end of each workshop and get books signed. Participating schools will be able to liaise with our festival booksellers, Waterstones, to arrange to buy signed books for pupils to take home as a memory of the day – and to encourage further reading (further information about this will be sent to schools once booking is confirmed).
GBF Inclusion Policy
We welcome pupils with additional needs to attend the GBF Schools Day and will be happy to liaise with staff about any specific requirements needed. Most of the campus has disabled access.
