London in Fragments: A Mudlark’s Treasures. Talk by Ted Sandling. 12+
The Thames foreshore has been a treasure trove for centuries. Here, at Greenwich, items washed up regularly include 18th century pipes, tiles from Henry VIII’s destroyed Palace of Placentia, chinaware – even bones. Join Ted Sandling, art historian and author of the beautiful London In Fragments: A Mudlark’s Treasures for an illustrated talk explaining the nuggets of history and human experience that draw him time and again to the Thames foreshore. “That is the joy of mudlarking: that after every trip to the river you know more than you did before.”
The Thames Explorer Trust will be hosting a Thames foreshore exploration just for the Greenwich Book Festival prior to this event from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children and adults will be able to walk in the footsteps of the mudlarks guided by experienced archaeologists who will help you find and identify artefacts on the foreshore. Please click on this sentence to book your spot at this special mudlarking event. It is open to children and adults.
