The Inkling Women is a ground-breaking history and celebration of women cartoonists and graphic novelists. Its authors are Cath Tate, artist and publisher of feminist greeting cards company, Cath Tate Cards, and Nicola Streeten, anthropologist-turned-illustrator, author of the acclaimed graphic memoir Billy, Me & You and co-founder of women-led but not women-only organisation Laydeez Do Comics, which showcases and encourages the work of women comic artists, described as ‘a combination between a book club and a series of TED talks’.
They will be Joined by graphic novelist Rachael Ball, author of The Inflatable Woman and committee member of Laydeez do Comics whose second graphic novel Wolf Man launches later this year.
Come along to the relaxed, friendly workshop space of our Edinburgh Room, for a GBF Laydeez Do Comics discussion covering topics such as feminist cartoons, women artists and humourists. There will be a (non-obligatory) chance to do some drawing too. Bring along something to draw on and with to join a quick and fun drawing exercise – no drawing experience necessary!
This event is timed to run-ahead of our Friday-night festival party celebration of Women Writers. (Places are limited to 45 so please book ahead, but latecomers will be admitted). The event will be followed by a book signing.
