At our Festival Finale, we were lucky enough to have Cressida Cowell talk to us about her “Wizards of Once” and “How to Train Your Dragon” series, but also about her inspirations and priorities. We were thrilled when less than a month later she was named the new Children’s Laureate. We know she will do a fantastic job.

The Waterstones Children’s Laureate is a two-year post given to a writer or illustrator to celebrate outstanding achievement, but also to champion children’s books and reading. Past recipients include Quentin Blake, Malorie Blackman, Anthony Browne, Michael Morpurgo, Julia Donaldson and Lauren Child.

Cressida Cowell created a Children’s Laureate Charter [see below], which we think you’ll agree is full of terrific ideas. Congratulations to Cressida!
