About The Event
The Green Green Roofs of Greenwich – FREE rooftop tour
Free guided tour of the fascinating roof gardens of the University of Greenwich’s award-winning Stockwell Street building.
The University of Greenwich Stockwell Street roofs, of which there are 14, were established 4 years ago as exemplars of what can be achieved by planting roofs. Our roofs, most of which are gardens display a multi-functionality of eco-system services by enhancing biodiversity, food production, social activities and of course providing pleasure. The roofs have become an important showcase for what can be achieved by incorporating more green infrastructure in our cities, thereby helping to counter the growing environmental crises we face.
Dr Benz Kotzen who will lead the tours is Research and Enterprise Lead in the School of Design and the head of the University of Greenwich Green Roofs and Living Walls Centre which carries out research in many aspects of green infrastructure including aquaponics where we grow fish and vegetables in a symbiotic relationship in our Aquaponics Lab. and in living walls technology.
The tours will run at: 16.00, 17.50 and 19.20.
The tours should take around 20 minutes and the roof gardens are located on the third floor (lifts are available for anyone not wishing to take the stairs). Please meet at the Ticket Desk in the reception area of the University of Greenwich Stockwell Street Building. The tours are free of charge but please register a free place following the link below as places for the tours are limited. Please make sure you select the correct time.
