Do you have questions? We have answers. Some of the most frequently asked questions answered here: when it happens, where it is, fun stuff to do, (and most importantly) what to eat.
When is the festival?
The 2020 Greenwich Book Festival has been sadly cancelled due to the COVID19 pandemic. It will return in June 2021 and will as usual include a fun filled weekend of literary events as well as a few exciting pre-festival events at Greenwich libraries, Greenwich secondary schools and other locations. The full programme will be announced in spring 2021.
Where is the festival?
The festival is held on the beautiful grounds of the University of Greenwich at the Old Royal Naval College. We also have events at The University of Greenwich Stockwell Street building and at Greenwich Theatre. We’ll have banners and volunteers on site directing you so that you can find where you need to go.
When can I buy tickets?
Tickets will be on sale from Spring 2021. Keep an eye on our social media for announcements. You can buy your tickets electronically through this website. You’ll also be able to buy tickets on the day at the box office at the festival site, subject to availability.
How do I get to Greenwich?
By Underground: The Cutty Sark DLR station is the closest underground stop.
By Overground Train: Greenwich or Maze Hill station, via London Bridge on Southeastern Rail.
By Boat: MBNA Thames Clippers dock at Greenwich, and you qualify for discounted tickets by taking the boat. If it was good enough for Queen Elizabeth I, it should work for you too.
What’s on offer at the festival?
We like to think we have things for book lovers of all ages—from the very small to the very experienced. But we’ll also have free lectures from the University of Greenwich professors, free creative workshops for kids and adults, as well as free poetry readings and free play readings at Greenwich Theatre.
Anything else to do there?
We’ve got other fun extras, too. Want to add some colour and sparkle to your and your children’s faces? We hope to have face painters again at the festival on the Saturday.
What do I do if I get hungry?
We’ve got you covered. Once again, we’re going to have an array of street food stalls with delicious offerings on Saturday. They’ll be spaces on the Old Royal Naval College lawn to have a picnic.
Who needs to buy a ticket?
All attendees must have a valid ticket. Some events are free of charge and some events are to be paid for. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a fee paying adult. It will be specified on the ticket if accompanying adults are free.
What is the refund policy?
An attendee can cancel their ticket up to 7 days before the event and receive a full refund. If the cancellation takes place less than 7 days before an event the attendee is not eligible for a refund.
What qualifies as a concession?
The Greenwich Book Festival are offering concessions for Greenwich Card holders, Thames Clipper ticket-holders (valid that day), Friends of Greenwich Theatre, University of Greenwich staff/alumni, OAPs, unemployed and adult students. Proof of concession may be checked on the door of the event so please ensure you bring your card/ID for verification. Please note that adults and children must both pay full price unless they qualify for a concession.
The University of Greenwich reserves the right to cancel a ticket at any time should the author withdraw from appearing. Such an occurrence would be out of the University’s control and tickets will be fully refunded. Where possible, attendees would be notified in advance by e-mail should a presentation be cancelled.
